MyVirtualChild is an interactive web-based simulation that allows you to raise a child from birth to age 18 and monitor the effects of your parenting decisions over time. This engaging website lets you apply the key concepts that you are learning in class. And just like in real life, certain unplanned events will be presented to you.
My Virtual Child really resonated with my students. Whitney Scott, Instructor Cal State University - Northridge
Professor Scott's students got very attached to the Virtual Child that they were raising. 'They would come up to me after class and want to talk about decisions that they made and should they have done this or not done.
Ashley liked contributing to online discussion boards in which she and her fellow students would post their My Virtual Child outcomes. Using the technology also gave Ashley extra points to help boost her grade!
Minal's not ready to be a mother, so having a Virtual Child was a great way to learn about everything it takes to be a parent.
Professor Robles loves that there's so many different choices and features for students on My Virtual Child and MyDevelopmentLab. 'They can see an interview, they could go on a website, they can do quizzes, there's study guides, there's biographies of different theorists or special people in our field and I really like that part of it and every week it's different.'
